2 Guatemalan Men Charged With Illegal Entry Into The U.S.

CONCORD, NH.- U.S. Attorney Jane E. Young reported, that on Monday, September 9, 2024, two Guatemalan men were taken into custody and charged in connection with illegal federal immigration offenses stemming from crossing into the United States near the Pittsburg Port of Entry in New Hampshire.
On Monday, Esdras Aaron Calel-Cumes, 29, and Luis Felipe Xiloj-Ambrocio, 31, were charged by complaint. Calel-Cumes was formally charged with one count of Transporting an Illegal Alien, and Xiloj-Ambrocio was formally charged with one count of Illegal Entry into the United States. On Tuesday, both men appeared in U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire and were arraigned on the charges.
Charging Documents Report
According to information in the charging documents, on Monday, September 9, 2024, remote surveillance equipment detected and captured images of a man walking in a remote and undeveloped area just south of the Pittsburg Port of Entry in the northernmost part of New Hampshire near the United States/Canadian International Border, close to U.S. Highway Route 3.
Shortly after, a responding U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent stopped a southbound vehicle after spotting a man in the passenger seat, which matched the description of the individual captured on remote video equipment.
The passenger was identified as Xiloj-Ambrocio, and both men were further identified as Guatemalan nationals. A records check revealed that neither Calel-Cumes nor Xiloj-Ambrocio had legal status in the United States.
If convicted of the charges, both men face a potential federal prison term of 5 years, followed by three years of supervised release and deportation proceedings following the completion of the sentence.
