USP Canaan Inmate Indicted With Stabbing Fellow Inmate In 2021

SCRANTON, PA.- Following an investigation, on Tuesday, a 54-year-old inmate at U.S. Federal Penitentiary Canaan in Waymart, Pennsylvania, has been charged in an indictment with stabbing a fellow inmate to death in November 2021.

     On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, a Federal Grand Jury for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against Bryant Wilson, 54, on a charge of Voluntary Manslaughter for the alleged stabbing death of an inmate.

     According to U.S. Attorney Gerald M. Karam, the indictment charges that on or about November 28, 2021, Wilson killed an inmate with a prison-made weapon during an altercation at the prison. The indictment also alleges that Wilson Unlawfully Possessed a Weapon, a seven-inch piece of metal sharpened to a point, commonly known as a “Shank.”

     The charges result from a joint investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.

“The rules of the court require us to include a statement that states: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant and or defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.”
