Queens Man Charged In Second Sunday Bergen County Serious Car Crash

TEANECK, NJ.- A 24-year-old Queens, New York, man remains in custody at an area hospital after being charged in connection with Sunday night’s head-on motor vehicle crash on Route 4 in Teaneck, New Jersey, that has left two people hospitalized with critical injuries.
According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, on Sunday, September 15, 2024, just shortly after 11:00 p.m., members of the Teaneck Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office responded to 911 Emergency Calls reporting a serious motor vehicle collision on Route 4 West in the area of River Road in Teaneck.
Upon arrival, Police and Sheriff’s Officers found that a 2004 BMW M3, operated by Emelio S. Lutchmansingh, 24, of Queens, had been traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Route 4 when he collided head-on into a 2020 Jeep Compass.
Lutchmansingh Fled On Foot
After crashing into the Jeep, Lutchmansingh jumped out of the BMW and fled the crash scene on foot but was apprehended a short distance from the crash by Teaneck Police Officers and Bergen County Sheriff’s Officers. Officers at the scene found five people in the Jeep Compass that sustained injuries. All five were transported to area hospitals for treatment. Lutchmansingh was also transported to an area hospital for treatment that he suffered in the collision.
While investigating at the scene and due to the severe injuries of the Jeep’s occupants and due to the nature of the collision, Sheriff’s Officers notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit responded, and Detectives launched an extensive investigation into the head-on collision.
During the subsequent investigation, Detectives learned that the license plates on the BMW were previously reported stolen, and cocaine was found inside the BMW. It was further determined that two of the Jeep’s occupants suffered serious injuries and remain hospitalized in critical condition.
Charges Filed
Accordingly, as a result of the investigation, Detectives formally charged Lutchmansingh with third-degree Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury; third-degree Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance; third-degree Motor Vehicle Altercation; fourth-degree Resisting Arrest; fourth-degree Receiving Stolen Property; two counts of fourth-degree Assault by Auto; and three counts of a Disorderly Persons Offense of Assault by Auto, as well as multiple Motor Vehicle Offenses.
Lutchmansingh was served with the charges at the hospital, where he remains in the custody of the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office pending his first appearance in Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.
