West Windsor Driver Charged In West Windsor Crashed That Killed Friend

WEST WINDSOR, NJ.- On Monday, September 16, 2024, following an investigation into an August 20, 2024, Mercer County early morning fatal crash, an 18-year-old West Windsor, New Jersey driver has been criminally charged in connection with the death of his passenger and friend.
According to Acting Mercer County Prosecutor Theresa L. Hilton, Rehan Jahangir, 18, of West Windsor, has been charged with first-degree Aggravated Manslaughter; second-degree Vehicular Homicide; third-degree Vehicular Homicide; and fourth-degree Possession of a False Government Document. Jahangir was served with the criminal complaints Monday evening at a rehabilitation center in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
On Sunday, August 20, 2024, shortly before 4:00 a.m., members of the West Windsor Police Department responded to a report of a serious motor vehicle crash on Lanwin Boulevard near Providence Drive in the Township.
Police Officers Locate Crash
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a 2024 Tesla Model Y that had left the roadway and collided with a tree, causing significant damage to the front passenger side of the Tesla. Responding Police Officers rendered medical attention to the two occupants, who sustained severe injuries until they could be removed by Fire and Emergency Medical Service personnel. Both occupants were transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment for life-threatening injuries.
On Saturday, August 24, 2024, the passenger in the Tesla, Daniel Haas, 18, of Princeton Junction, New Jersey, tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Ensuing Investigation
An investigation by West Windsor Police Department’s Traffic Officer Edward McQuade, West Windsor Police Detective Dominick Fiore, and Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Response Team Detective Kayleigh Colligan and Detective Ryan Minnick ensued.
The investigation determined that the Tesla, driven by Jahangir with Mr. Haas as a front-seat passenger, was traveling in the northbound lane of Lanwin Boulevard when it left the roadway and collided head-on into a tree just past the intersection of Providence Drive. Both Jahangir and Mr. Haas sustained life-threatening injuries, and the Tesla was significantly damaged in the crash.
According to the allegations filed in the criminal complaints, Jahangir was operating the Tesla while under the influence of alcohol, with his blood alcohol concentration at 0.125 percent. A forensic examination of the Tesla’s onboard diagnostic computer determined that Jahangir was operating the Tesla at 78 miles per hour on a 35-mile-an-hour roadway.
Further, Jahangir was in possession of a fraudulent New Jersey Driver’s License with an altered date of birth.
