Atlantic City Man Charged With Running Down Woman & Fleeing Scene

GALLOWAY, NJ.- Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds reported that following an investigation on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, Darrell Dean, 61, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, was taken into custody and charged with second-degree Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident.
The charge stems from an investigation that began on Thursday, September 12, 2024, when just shortly before 8:00 p.m., members of the Galloway Township Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle on Route 30 Westbound near the area of Seventh Avenue in the Township.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a woman, later identified as Angeletta Sheppard, 33, from Barnegat, New Jersey, having succumbed to injuries from being struck by a motor vehicle. Ms. Sheppard was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigation Determines
An investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Galloway Township Police Department determined that Dean struck Ms. Sheppard and then fled the scene on foot. Dean was identified as the suspect and was located and arrested on Tuesday.
After being formally charged, Dean was released on a complaint summons pending future court proceedings in Atlantic County Superior Court in Mays Landing, New Jersey.
