Charleston Man Pleads Guilty To Federal Narcotics Gun Crime

CHARLESTON, W.VA.- On Thursday, September 19, 2024, Roger Wayne Legg, 33, of Charleston, West Virginia, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge John T. Copenhaver to Possession of a Firearm During a Drug Trafficking Crime.

     According to U.S. Attorney Will Thompson, following Legg’s guilty plea, Judge Copenhaver accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for December 19, 2024. At that time, Legg faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to life in federal prison, up to five years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.

     According to documents filed with the court on September 20, 2023, Legg possessed a quantity of methamphetamine and a loaded Diamondback DB380 .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun in a backpack he was carrying in Charleston, West Virginia.

Legg Admits Guilt To Crime

     During Thursday’s court hearing. Legg admitted that he intended to sell and distribute the methamphetamine and carried the handgun for security and protection while he was going to sell the illicit narcotic.

     U.S. Attorney Thompson commended the investigative work of the Charleston Police Department Special Enforcement Unit and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives for the investigation, arrest, and Thursday’s guilty plea.
