El Paso Man Sentenced To Prison For Selling Fentanyl Pills, Causing Death

EL PASO, TX.- On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, Adrian David Perez, Jr., 21, of El Paso, Texas, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Leon Schydlower to 180 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release for Distribution of Fentanyl Resulting in Death.

     According to U.S. Attorney Jamie Esparza, on October 13, 2021, Perez sold counterfeit M-30 pills laced with fentanyl to an individual. The person, after purchasing the pills, consumed the drugs, and the following day, his mother found him deceased.

Medical Examiner Determines Fentanyl Death

     A subsequent autopsy performed by the El Paso’s Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the man died from acute fentanyl toxicity.

     During Tuesday’s court hearing, Judge Schydlower ordered Perez to pay $3,800 in restitution upon his release from prison in addition to the prison term.
