Bronx Man Sentenced To Prison For Distributing Fentanyl In Massachusetts

BOSTON, MA.- On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, Jose Luis Lopez Genao, 32, of Bronx, New York, appeared in U.S. District Court for the District Court of Massachusetts and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni to 30 months in federal prison, followed by four years of supervised release for his previously guilty plea for transporting fentanyl into Massachusetts for distribution.
According to U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy, in June 2024, Lopez Genao appeared in U.S. District Court and pleaded guilty before Judge Mastroianni to one count of Distribution of Fentanyl; and Possession with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl.
According to documents filed with the court, in June 2021, Lopez Genao and others in a drug trafficking organization were identified as individuals receiving large shipments of fentanyl from outside the United States. Then, they would distribute it throughout Springfield, Massachusetts, and the surrounding areas of New England.
Lopez Genao Arrested
On December 8, 2022, Lopez Genao traveled from New York to the Worchester, Massachusetts area, to deliver approximately one kilogram of fentanyl. Lopez Genao was immediately arrested after delivering the fentanyl to a cooperating witness.
The case was brought as part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces Strike Force initiative, which provides for establishing permanent multi-agency task force teams that work side-by-side in the same location.
