Tuesday, October 8, 2024, 7:10 A.M. ET. 2 Minute Read, By Art Fletcher: Englebrook Independent News,

MORRISTOWN, NJ.- The former owner of a Morris County clothing store was sentenced to probation and county jail on his previously entered guilty plea in connection with his months-long invasion of privacy for recording his former employees, including juveniles, while they used the employee restroom at Plato’s Closet in Roxbury Township, New Jersey.

According to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, on May 13, 2024, Nicholas Zirpoli, 36, of Lincoln Park, New Jersey, appeared in Morris County Superior Court and pleaded guilty before Superior Court Judge Stephen J. Taylor to ten counts of third-degree Invasion of Privacy; and one count of third-degree Possession of Child Pornography.

Judge Taylor Sentences Zirpoli

In return for Zirpoli’s guilty plea, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office recommended that he be placed on probation, with the condition that he serve 364 days in the Morris County Correctional Facility. On Friday, October 4, 2024, under the plea agreement, Judge Taylor sentenced Zirpoli to three years of probation upon completing a 364-day county jail term.

During Friday’s sentencing hearing, Judge Taylor ordered Zirpoli not to have any contact with the victims or the victim’s family members and to continue to undergo psychotherapy.

The sentence stems from an investigation in early 2023 when an employee discovered a recording device hidden in the clothing store’s employee restroom and notified the Roxbury Township Police Department. The Roxbury Township Police Department and Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit launched a joint investigation. During the investigation, Detectives uncovered that from late 2022 through early 2023, Zirpoli utilized a recording device to video-record eleven employees, including some juveniles, while using the bathroom. Following the investigation, Zirpoli was formally charged.

In May 2024, Plato’s Closet in Ledgewood was purchased by a new owner. Zirpoli has no interest in the clothing store’s ownership or operations and is not permitted to be on the premises.
