Investigation Continues Into Tuesday Afternoon Northeast Shooting Death

WASHINGTON, DC.- A 39-year-old Southwest Washington, D.C. man becomes the fourth person to be killed in less than thirty-six hours after he was gunned down Tuesday afternoon on the 900 Block of 7th Street in Northeast, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, just shortly before 1:30 p.m., members of the Metropolitan Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting shots fired on the 900 Block of 7th Street in Northeast, D.C.
Upon arrival, Police Officers and D.C. Fire found a man, later identified as Delonte Smith, 39, of Southwest, D.C., unresponsive from a gunshot wound. Despite life-saving measures by Emergency Medical Services technicians, Mr. Smith tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time as Police continue the search for the gunman.
