CAMDEN, NJ.- Today, October 10, 2024, Michael Disporto, 30, of Manahawkin, New Jersey, appeared in Camden County Superior Court and was sentenced to life in New Jersey State Prison without the possibility of parole for the horrific sexual assault and murder of his girlfriend’s 23-month-old girl.
According to Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay, following a trial in Camden County Superior Court on October 13, 2023, the jury found Disporto guilty on the charges of first-degree Murder; and first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault in connection with the death of 23-month-old A.S.
Additionally, during today’s sentencing hearing, the court sentenced Disporto to a consecutive 40 years in New Jersey State Prison for his conviction on the Aggravated Sexual Assault charge, subject to the No Early Release Act.
Today’s sentence stems from an investigation that began on Sunday, July 3, 2016, when members of the Gloucester City Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting an unresponsive child. Upon arrival, Police Officers found the child unconscious and unresponsive. Twenty-three-month-old A.S. was immediately transported to Cooper University Hospital. Doctors found that she was found to have suffered extensive injuries as well as signs of being sexually abused.
On July 5, 2016, 23-month-old A.S. was pronounced deceased. A subsequent autopsy by the Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the child’s death a Homicide, and the cause of death was from blunt force trauma.
Detectives from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, the Gloucester City Police Department, and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office investigated the case.
