MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ.- Last Friday, a 61-year-old Towaco, New Jersey, man appeared in Morris County Superior Court and was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Ralph Amirata to New Jersey State Prison for sexually assaulting a male juvenile for ten years.
According to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, following an investigation earlier this year, on June 19, 2024, Juan A. Fernandez, 61, pleaded guilty before Judge Amirata to one count of first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault.
On Friday, October 4, 2024, Judge Amirata sentenced Fernandez to 16 years in New Jersey State Prison, subject to the No Early Release Act, which will require Fernandez to serve 85% of his custodial term before becoming eligible for parole. As a condition of the sentence, Fernandez must spend the last five years of the custodial term to be served at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Avenel, New Jersey.
Fernandez Will Be On Supervision For Life
Additionally, upon his release from prison, Fernandez will be on parole supervision for life and will be required to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law and not to have any contact with the victim.
The guilty plea and sentence stem from an investigation that began in March 2024, when Morris County law enforcement learned that Fernandez performed multiple sexual acts on a juvenile male from the time the boy was 6 years old and lasting until 16 years of age,
