Camden Convicted Of Fatally Gunning Down A Man In May 2018

CAMDEN, NJ.- Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay reported on Thursday, October 10, 2024, that a jury sitting in Camden County Superior Court convicted Shomari Kinard, 44, of Camden, New Jersey, for the May 2018, shooting death of a 25-year-old Camden, New Jersey man.
Following a five-week trial in Camden County Superior Court and after deliberating, the jury on Thursday found Kinard guilty on the charges of first-degree Murder; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
Judge Schedules Sentencing For December 10,
Following the finding of guilt, a Superior Court Judge accepted the jury’s verdict and scheduled Kinard’s sentence for December 10, 2024. At that time, Kinard faces a minimum of 30 years and up to life in New Jersey State Prison.
The conviction stems from an investigation that began on May 10, 2018, when members of the Camden County Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the area of Louis and Morton Streets in the City of Camden.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, later identified as Naquan Reddick, 25, lying on the ground outside the Greattown Grocery and Deli, located on Louis and Morton Streets, suffering from seven gunshot wounds to his back.
Mr. Reddick was immediately transported to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries two months later and was pronounced deceased on July 10, 2018.
During an ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit identified Kinard as the shooter following reviewing surveillance footage, witness accounts, and cell phone data.
