PHILADELPHIA, PA.- Last Friday, a Lindenwold, New Jersey, man appeared in Philadelphia Federal Court and pleaded guilty in connection with a two-week string of violent armed robberies that he committed earlier this year at corner stores in Philadelphia’s Kensington Section.

According to U.S. Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero, on Friday, October 11, 2024, Jared Stanley, 32, of Lindenwold, New Jersey, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Philadelphia and pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge John F. Murphy to three counts of Hobbs Act Robbery; and one count of Carrying, Using, and Brandishing a Firearm for a Crime of Violence.

Two-Week Robbery Spree

The robberies began when, on January 21, 2024, Stanley entered the Birch Mini-Market, located at 2001 East Birch Street. Upon entering the store, Stanley approached the counter, pulled out a gun, pointed the gun at the cashier, and demanded money. When the cashier didn’t understand him, Stanley started screaming at them. Stanley repeatedly hit the cashier in the head with the gun, stole around $550 from the cash register, and then fled the store.

Then, on January 28, 2024, Stanley and an unidentified co-conspirator entered the Capricorno Grocery, located at 2000 East Orleans Street. Upon entering the grocery store, Stanley walked directly up to the employee area of the store, pulled out a handgun, grabbed the employee by the shirt, and forcibly pulled him away, pistol-whipped him repeatedly, and stood guard over him while his accomplice went back to the cash register and stole around $500.

Finally, on February 2, 2024, Stanley again, with an unidentified co-conspirator, entered the Bonifacios Grocery located at 3052 Frankford Avenue. After entering, they pushed an employee to the cash register, told him to get on the ground, and then pistol-whipped him in the head. Stanley and his accomplice then stole around $500 from the cash register, and the two fled the store.

Following entering his plea, Judge Murphy accepted Stanley’s guilty pleas and scheduled sentencing for January 29, 2024. At which time, Stanley faces a mandatory minimum of seven years and up to life in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, a $1,250,000 fine, and a special assessment fee of $500.
