D.C. Metro Detectives Searching For Suspect Wednesday’s Fatal Stabbing

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Thursday, October 17, 2024, D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith reported that a 60-year-old Southeast, D.C. man who sustained injuries during a stabbing earlier this month died last Friday from complications from being stabbed.
On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, shortly before 11:00 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting a stabbing on the 800 Block of Chesapeake Street in Southeast, D.C.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, later identified as Claybourne Couts, 60, of Southeast, D.C., suffering from multiple stab wounds. Mr. Couts was immediately transported by D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Service personnel to a local hospital for treatment.
Mr. Couts was admitted to the hospital in critical condition but subsequently released later that week.
Mr. Couts Dies From Earlier Stab Wounds
According to Chief Smith, on Friday, October 11, 2024, members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District responded to the 800 Block of Chesapeake Street in Southeast after receiving a report of an unconscious man. Upon arrival, Police Officers found Mr. Couts unresponsive, D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Service arrived on the scene and pronounced Mr. Couts deceased.
A subsequent post-mortem examination by the D.C. Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be complications from his previously sustained stab wounds and the manner to be homicide.
