HUNTINGTON, W.VA.- Today, October 21, 2024, Timothy Ryan Wolfe, 39, of Huntington, West Virginia, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Robert C. Chambers to Unlafully Engaging in the Sale of Firearms Without being Licensed.
Following entering his plea, Judge Chambers accepted Wolfe’s plea and scheduled sentencing for February 3, 2025, at which time Wolfe faces a maximum term of five years in federal prison, followed by at least one year of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.
According To Documents Filed With The Court
According to documents and statements made in court, beginning in April 2024 and lasting through June 6, 2024, Wolfe engaged in the business of dealing in firearms without a Federal Firearms License. During that time, Wolfe advertised the sale of firearms on multiple social media platforms. Today in court, Wolfe admitted that he received requests from individuals for specific firearms he purchased from Federal firearms-licensed entities to resell to these individuals. He also purchased firearms without a specific buyer in mind, with the intent to sell them to others.
Wolfe further admitted in court that he was not licensed to deal in firearms and knew he needed a license in order to purchase and resell firearms.
Wolfe sold eleven firearms to a confidential informant over the course of five transactions during this time period, each time from Wolfe’s Huntington residence. Wolfe admitted to those transactions and further admitted that they included two short-barrel rifles not registered to him in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Database. Wolfe also admitted that he had converted one of the firearms after the confidential informant requested a short-barrel rifle.
U.S. Attorney Will Thompson commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives for the investigation leading to Wolfe’s guilty plea today.
