Newark Man Was Killed After Being Struck By Police Officer Last Night

PATERSON, NJ.- A 51-year-old Newark, New Jersey, man tragically died from injuries he sustained after he was struck by a Paterson Police Officer who was exiting the Paterson Police Department in a vehicle Monday night.

     According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Officer-in-Charge Isa Abbassi, on Monday, October 21, 2024, just shortly before 7:00 p.m., a Paterson Police Officer struck a pedestrian in his personal car, as the Officer was exiting the Police Department parking lot on Memorial Drive in the City of Paterson.

     After striking the pedestrian, the Police Officers quickly jumped out of the vehicle and attempted to administer life-saving measures to the victim, identified only as a 51-year-old Newark, New Jersey man. The man was immediately transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center for treatment of injuries to his head and arm. Despite life-saving efforts by medical staff, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later.

     The investigation remains active and ongoing. More information may become available once released by authorities.
