NEWARK, NJ.- U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger reported that today, October 24, 2024, Jamil King, 32, of Jersey City, New Jersey, appeared in U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Esther Salas to 225 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for his conviction on an illicit drug charge.

King was previously convicted after a two-day trial before Judge Salas on the charge of Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine in Newark federal court.

According To Evidence Presented At Trial

According to documents and evidence presented at trial, King is a known high-ranking member of the Jersey City neighborhood street gang known as the Parkside Killers.

During an investigation into King and Parkside gang member’s narcotics distribution in the Jersey City area, law enforcement officials obtained a court-authorized search warrant for King’s Jersey City residence. During the evening of July 8, 2022, law enforcement investigators executed that warrant. When police arrived, King fled, but investigators located and seized around 50 grams of cocaine from a pair of sweatpants inside the apartment.

Subsequent DNA analysis confirmed that the DNA recovered on the sweatpants matched King’s DNA, which is listed in the National Database. The sweatpants also matched his sweatshirt when he fled law enforcement that evening.

U.S. Attorney Sellinger credited the Jersey City Police Department, under the direction of Director James Shea, for the investigation leading to King’s arrest, conviction, and today’s federal prison sentence. Attorney Sellinger also thanked the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Newark Field Divison, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge L.C. Cheeks, Jr.
