NEWARK, NJ.- On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, Soauib Butcher, 30, of Brooklyn, New York, appeared in U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Michael E. Farbiarz to one count of Conspiracy to Commit Sex Trafficking of a Child.
Following entering his guilty plea, Judge Farbiarz accepted the plea and scheduled Burcher to be sentenced on February 19, 2025, at which time Butcher faces a maximum term of life in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
According To The U.S. Attorney’s Office
According to U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger, in August 2019, Butcher brought the child victim by train to New York City, where he instructed the child to perform oral sex on a rooftop in Brooklyn, New York, for money.
Several days later, Butcher brought the child to Elizabeth, New Jersey, where, over the next five months, beginning in August 2019 and lasting through January 2020, the child victim stayed with Butcher and a co-conspirator in different motel rooms in Union County, New Jersey. During that time, the co-conspirator posted advertisements depicting the child on escort websites and, together with Butcher, arranged for customers to come to the motels to engage in sexual activities in exchange for money.
U.S. Attorney Sellinger credited special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Newark Division, for the investigation that led to Butcher’s arrest and Tuesday’s guilty plea.
