HARRISBURG, PA.- On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, David Bruce Darby, 46, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Christopher C. Conner to life in federal prison for Drug Trafficking, Money Laundering, and Weapons offenses.

According to U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam, Darby was convicted by a federal jury following a trial before U.S. District Judge Conner in January 2024. During Tuesday’s sentencing hearing, Judge Conner referred to the evidence presented at trial.

The trial evidence included an extensive investigation that the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General conducted into Darby and his drug trafficking crew. Darby brought in oxycodone pills from New York City and reselling them in the Chambersburg area from 2018 through 2019. Darby even continued to sell drugs while he was incarcerated in York County prison.

The jury heard evidence that law enforcement monitored Darby’s telephone calls in which Darby described himself as “The Biggest Pill Dealer In Chambersburg.” Darby was also convicted of selling fentanyl-laced pills that killed one of his customers in August 2019.

Judge Conner Cites Darby’s Criminal Record

In handing down the sentence on Tuesday, Judge Conner noted that Darby’s criminal history was among the worst he has seen in the 23 years on the bench. Darby’s criminal history also involved criminal convictions for assaulting prison guards.

Darby’s co-defendant, Malik Bonds, was also convicted of drug trafficking at the same trial, and on June 17, 2024, Judge Conner sentenced Bonds to 156 months in federal prison.

The Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Franklin County Drug Task Force, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case.
