Charges Filed In Shooting Death Of Prosecutor’s Detective During Burglary

BRIDGETON, NJ.- On Monday, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey L. Sutherland announced that following an investigation, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office has filed formal charges against four individuals for the October 15, 2024, violent home invasion that resulted in the tragic shooting death of Detective Sergeant Monica Mosley inside her Bridgeton, New Jersey home.

     According to Prosecutor Sutherland, Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Monica Mosley was a dedicated public servant who devoted her life to protecting the community. Her untimely death has left a profound impact on her family, colleagues, and the entire community she served.

     A joint investigation led by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, the New Jersey State Police Major Crimes Unit, the Bridgeton Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit, and assisted by the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the United States Marshals Service has resulted in charges being filed against the following individuals.

Charges Filed Against Four

     Nyshawn Mutcherson, 29, of Vineland, New Jersey, is charged with first-degree Murder; first-degree Felony Murder; second-degree Burglary; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons; third-degree Hindering Apprehension; and fourth-degree Obstruction of Justice.

     Jared Brown, 31, of Bridgeton, New Jersey, is charged with first-degree Murder; first-degree Felony Murder; second-degree Burglary; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons; third-degree Hindering Apprehension; and fourth-degree Obstruction of Justice.

     Richard B. Hawkins Willis, 32, of Gloucester City, New Jersey, is charged with first-degree Murder; first-degree Felony Murder; second-degree Burglary; second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons; third-degree Hindering Apprehension; and fourth-degree Obstruction of Justice.

     Cyndia E. Pimentel, 38, of Paulsboro, New Jersey, is charged with third-degree Hindering an Investigation; fourth-degree Obstruction of Justice; and fourth-degree Tampering with Evidence.

     All four defendants were processed on their charges and were remanded into custody pending future Superior Court Proceedings.

Sutherland. “We are resolute in our commitment to ensuring that those responsible for this horrific act are held accountable. Our hearts remain with Detective Sergeant Monica Mosley’s loved ones and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.”

Attorney General States:

     “The law enforcement community and the State of New Jersey have lost a steadfast and dedicated public servant, but we know that the loss of Sergeant Monica Mosley is most deeply felt by her family, loved ones, and colleagues. While nothing will ever bring Sgt. Mosley, back to those who loved her, we hope that the focused, coordinated efforts in this case provide them with the comfort of knowing that justice is being pursued,” said Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin. “I want to recognize the incredible efforts of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, the New Jersey State Police Major Crimes Unit, the Bridgeton Police Department, and the many other agencies involved in this investigation into her murder.”
