BOSTON, MA.- On Friday, November 1, 2024, Thiago da Silva Pinheiro, 44, of Cincinnati, Ohio, appeared in U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton to 60 months in federal prison to be followed by five years of supervised release for a federal child pornography offense.

Pinheiro previously appeared in U.S. District Court on January 12, 2024, and pleaded guilty to one count of Child Pornography.

According to Acting U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy and charging documents filed with the court, on September 20, 2022, Pinheiro arrived at Boston’s Logan International Airport from Ontario, Canada, on a stop to board a plane to his ultimate destination, Brazil.

During screening at Logan International by Customs and Border Patrol Officers, Customs Officers found child sexual abuse material on Pinheiro’s tablet and cellular phone.

Customs Officers Uncover Thousands Of Digital Files

A subsequent search of Pinheiro’s electronic devices uncovered thousands of digital images and video files depicting the sexual exploitation and abuse of prepubescent and pubescent children, including some as young as two years old. Following the discovery, Pinheiro was taken into custody and charged.

The case was prosecuted under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the U.S. Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
