Schenectady Man Detained On Federal Drug & Firearms Offenses

ALBANY, NY.- On Thursday, October 31, 2024, Nekie Ricks, 31, of Schenectady, New York, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York and was arraigned on the unsealing of an indictment, charging Ricks with Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine; and Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of Drug Trafficking.
On Friday, November 1, 2024, U.S. Magistrate Judge Christian F. Hummel ordered Ricks detained pending trial during a detention hearing in U.S. Federal Court in Albany, New York.
According to U.S. Attorney Carla B. Freedman and charging information unsealed in the indictment, on August 24, 2022, Ricks, while in the Northern District of New York, possessed cocaine with the intent to distribute the controlled substance and possessed a handgun in furtherance of that time.
Ricks knew he was prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition because of a prior felony conviction. If convicted on the charges, Ricks faces a minimum of five years and up to life in federal prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a $1 million fine.
