Woman Remains Hospitalized After Being Struck By Car In Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, NJ.- Ocean County authorities are continuing to search for the vehicle and driver who ran down a 35-year-old woman bicyclist Tuesday night in Lakewood, New Jersey, and fled, leaving the woman critically injured in the roadway.

     According to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at around 7:15 p.m., members of the Lakewood Township Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency call reporting a cyclist being struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Maplehurst Avenue and Cross Street in the Township.

     Upon arrival, Police Officers found a 35-year-old woman in the roadway suffering from serious injuries. The woman was immediately transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where she remains listed in critical condition.

     An investigation by Detectives of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and the Lakewood Township Police Department determined that a motor vehicle traveling northbound on Cross Street when it struck the female cyclist, who was traveling northbound on Cross Street. After striking the woman, the vehicle fled the area. Further investigation uncovered that the vehicle is believed to be a blue or silver colored Toyota or Lexus Sport Utility Vehicle. The vehicle will have significant front-end damage.
