BURLINGTON, VT. On Friday, November 8, 2024, Marvin Byrd, 29, of Hartford, Connecticut, appeared in U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Christina Reiss to 35 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, for his previously entered guilty plea for Conspiracy to Distribute Controlled Substances, including fentanyl.
According to U.S. Attorney Nicholas P. Kerest and documents filed with the District Court, Byrd agreed with multiple other individuals to acquire and redistribute controlled substances in Orleans County, Vermont.
Beginning in March 2023 and lasting through August 2023, Byrd stayed with multiple local Orleans County residents and utilized their homes to repackage and redistribute illicit narcotics. The last house that Byrd occupied for that purpose was located in Barton, Vermont. At that time, investigators conducted multiple controlled buys from Byrd and his co-conspirators, including one purchase of fentanyl directly from Byrd in April 2023.
U.S. Attorney Kerest commended the investigative work of federal, state, county, and local law enforcement agencies for the successful prosecution of Byrd.
