JOHNSTOWN, PA.- On Thursday, November 14, 2024, Sahal Sahal, 38, of SeaTac, Washington, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Court Judge Kim R. Gibson to 168 months in federal prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release, on his conviction of Conspiracy to Distribute and Possession with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl.
According to U.S. Attorney Eric G. Olshan and documents filed with the district court, beginning in October 2022 and lasting through June 2023, Sahal, within the Western District of Pennsylvania, conspired with others to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl.
During an investigation, Sahal was intercepted on a court-authorized wiretap obtaining quantities of fentanyl that he distributed to others. Sahal played a major role in a nationwide drug trafficking organization that distributed illicit narcotics originating in Mexico and distributed from the West Coast of the United States throughout the country.
Throughout the years-long investigation, federal authorities seized over two million fentanyl-laced counterfeit pills, 400 pounds of methamphetamine, 16 pounds each of powdered fentanyl and cocaine, $600 thousand in U.S. Currency, nine motor vehicles, and over 40 firearms. Sahal was one of 57 defendants charged in two related indictments that were returned in February 2023.
U.S. Attorney Olshan commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Laurel Highlands Resident Agency and Homeland Security Investigations for the investigation that led to Sahal’s successful prosecution.
