BOSTON, MA.- A 37-year-old Lenox man will be spending the next 14 months in federal prison for sending sexually explicit digital images of himself to who he thought was a 14-year-old girl, but learned that when law enforcement showed up at his house, it was actually a federal agent he sent the pictures to.
On Monday, November 18, 2024, Paul J. Bruzzi, 37, of Lenox, Massachusetts, appeared in U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni to 14 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea.
After initially being charged in late 2022, Bruzzi appeared in federal court in Springfield, Massachusetts, in July 2024 and pleaded guilty to one count of Attempt to Transfer Obscene Material to a Minor.
Bruzzi Caught In Undercover Sting
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy, beginning in September 2022, Bruzzi utilized social media platform applications to engage in conversations with an individual he believed was a 14-year-old girl but who was actually an undercover federal agent.
During the conversations, Bruzzi attempted to pressure the 14-year-old girl into sending him nude and sexually explicit digital images of herself. During that time, Bruzzi sent nine digital images and video files of his genitalia to the agent posing as the girl.
