Beckley Man Pleads Guilty To Federal Firearms Violation

BECKLEY, W.VA.- Today, Ryan H. Guerrant, 33, of Beckley, West Virginia, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Omar J. Aboulhosn to one count of Being a Convicted in Possession of a Firearm.
After entering his guilty plea today, Judge Aboulhosn accepted the plea and scheduled sentencing for March 14, 2025; at that time, Guerrant faces up to 15 years in federal prison, followed by up to three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine. The actual term of imprisonment will be determined by a U.S. District Court Judge based on the seriousness of the offense and Guerrant’s prior criminal history.
According to U.S. Attorney Will Thompson and documents filed with the court, on November 26, 2023, members of the Beckley Police Department responded to Guerrant’s Beckley, West Virginia residence following receiving a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, Police Officers found a Bersa 9mm gun on the bed next to Guerrant.
Federal law prohibits a person with a prior felony conviction from owning or possessing a firearm or ammunition. Guerrant knew he was a prohibited person due to his prior felony convictions for first-degree Armed Robbery; first-degree Conspiracy to Commit Robbery; and escape in Raleigh County Circuit Court in January 2010.
