MARQUETTE, MI.- On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, Brandon Earl Lavoy, 36, a convicted child sexual predator from Chatham, Michigan, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan and was sentenced by a U.S. District Court Judge to 135 months in federal prison for his conviction of Possession of Child Pornography.
According to U.S. Attorney Mark Totten, Lavoy first came into federal law enforcement’s sights after FBI agents discovered end-to-end encrypted messages between Lavoy and another person. In the messages, Lavoy provided the identifying information of two minor children, telling the other person that he was looking to get one of the children “raped.” FBI agents were able to trace the messages back to Lavoy.
Following identifying Lavoy, federal agents obtained and executed a court-authorized search warrant on Lavoy’s cellular phone and computer, where agents uncovered Lavoy’s collection of digital images and video files depicting nude and sexually explicit prepubescent and pubescent children. Following the search, Lovoy was taken into custody.
“The sexual exploitation of children is reprehensible,” said U.S. Attorney Mark Totten. “Mr. Lavoy is a sexual predator whose egregious plan to ‘get a minor raped’ was thankfully thwarted by FBI agents. My office will not waiver in our commitment to working with law enforcement partners to ensure that sexual predators that target children are brought to justice.”
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the U.S. Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
