Absecon Man Sentenced To An Additional State Prison Term For Drugs

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ.- A 47-year-old Absecon, New Jersey man already sentenced to 60 years in New Jersey State Prison for a 2020 violent home invasion has been sentenced to an additional eight years in prison for a narcotics distribution offense.
On Tuesday, November 14, 2024, Michael E. Hayes, 47, formerly of Absecon, New Jersey, appeared in Atlantic County Superior Court and was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Donna Taylor to eight years in New Jersey State Prison for second-degree Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine out of the Showboat Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Judge Taylor ordered the sentence to run concurrently with the 60-year sentence he is currently serving in State Prison. During the sentencing hearing, Hayes agreed to forfeit $6,417.50 in cash seized during the search of his room at the Showboat Hotel.
Hayes Currently Serving 60 Years In Prison
Hayes is currently serving a sixty-year New Jersey State Prison term, subject to the No Early Release Act, which will require him to serve 85% of his custodial term before becoming eligible for parole for his conviction of first-degree Armed Robbery; Home Invasion; and multiple weapons offenses.
According to Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds, on December 16, 2020, during the home invasion investigation on Hayes, Atlantic County law enforcement Detectives executed a court-authorized search warrant at Hayes’ secondary residence at the Showboat Hotel Room 1921, located at 801 Boardwalk in Atlantic City.
During the search, Detectives found cash receipts with Hayes’ name on them from inside the hotel room. Detectives also uncovered and seized around 4.8 grams of a heroin/fentanyl mixture and around 12.6 grams of crystal methamphetamine. Several narcotics production facility items were also found, including five digital scales, rubber bands, cutting agents, several boxes of small heroin folds, spoons, ink stampers, sandwich bags, a vacuum sealer, mixers, and shifters containing narcotics residue.
Detectives also found and seized a 50-round high-capacity magazine fully loaded with hollow point bullets.
