3 Injured & 33 Displaced In Early Thursday Morning Residential Fire

JERSEY CITY, NJ.- The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Jersey City Fire Department are continuing the investigation into a Thursday morning apartment building fire that injured three and left 33 residents displaced.

     According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, on Thursday, November 21, 2024, just before 6:00 a.m., the Jersey City Fire Department responded to multiple 911 Emergency Calls reporting a fire at 274 Monticello Avenue in Jersey City.

     Upon arrival, First Responders encountered heavy smoke throughout the first-floor hallway, and the basement was engulfed in flames.

     While fighting the fire, First Responders discovered a 70-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man having sustained injuries as a result of the fire. They were immediately transported to Jersey City Medical Center and later transported to Jacobi Medical Center in New York City for treatment, where they both remain hospitalized in stable condition. A Firefighter sustained minor injuries and was treated at Jersey City Medical Center and released.

     During the initial investigation, Fire Officials determined that the fire originated in the basement area of the building. Although the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature at this time, investigators are continuing their investigation into its cause.
