Inmate Sentenced To Another Term For Possessing Weapon In Prison

BECKLEY, W.VA.- On Friday, November 22, 2024, Jonathan Webb, 28, an inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution Beckley, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Frank W. Volk to 12 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea for Possession of a Weapon by an Inmate at a Federal Prison.
In handing down the sentence on Friday, Judge Volk ordered Webb to serve the sentence consecutive to the current sentence he is presently serving.
According to U.S. Attorney Will Thompson and charging documents filed with the court, on June 26, 2023, a federal corrections officer at Federal Correctional Institution conducted a pat-down search of Webb and found a homemade weapon commonly known as a “shank” in his right front pants pocket.
The shank was a piece of metal approximately six inches long with a sharpened point on one end and a cloth handle.
During his plea hearing, Webb admitted that the shank was designed and intended to be used as a weapon. U.S. Attorney Thompson commended the investigative work of members of the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.
