SCRANTON, PA.- On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, A Federal Grand Jury for the Middle District of Pennsylvania returned an indictment charging Jose Rafael Polo-Sanchez, 43, of the Dominican Republic, with one count of Illegal Reentry into the United States by a Previously Deported Alien.

According to charging information unsealed in the indictment, alleges that Polo-Sanchez was previously removed from the United States on December 3, 2019, from Alexandria, Louisiana. It has been further alleged that Polo-Sanchez was discovered on October 31, 2024, residing in Clinton County, Pennsylvania, without obtaining legal permission to reenter the United States.

If convicted at trial, Polo-Sanchez faces up to 10 years in federal prison, a term of supervised release, and a fine. He will also face deportation proceedings after completion of his federal term of incarceration.

U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam credited the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations with Polo-Sanchez’s arrest and indictment.
