Huntington Man Sentenced For Federal Firearms Crime

HUNTINGTON, W.VA.- On Monday, November 25, 2024, Steven Patrick Crabtree, 35, of Huntington, West Virginia, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Robert C. Chambers to 72 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea to Being a Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm.
According to U.S. Attorney Will Thompson and charging documents filed with the court, on March 4, 2024, members of the Huntington Police Department responded to reports of a person shooting at others outside a Buffington Street residence in Huntington, West Virginia.
   Upon arrival, Police Officers encountered Crabtree, who matched the description of the shooting suspect. During the encounter, Police Officers recovered and secured a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun from Crabtree, and a search of the serial number of the handgun revealed that the gun was stolen.
On March 4, 2024, Crabtree knew he was prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm or ammunition due to his felony convictions for conspiracy to deliver not less than 10 grams nor more than 100 grams of heroin in Wayne County Circuit Court in May 2018, and attempt to commit a felony in Cabel County Circuit Court in March 2017.
U.S. Attorney Thompson commended the investigative work of the Huntington Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
