Homicide Unit Investigating Union City Apparent Beating Death Of Man

UNION CITY, NJ.- Detectives of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Union City Police Department are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 56-year-old man following the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office ruling the death a homicide.
According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at around 11:00 a.m., members of the Union City Police Department responded to a 911 Emergency Call reporting an unresponsive man on the ground behind a building located on 23rd Street in Union City.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man, later identified as 56-year-old Reynaldo Gonzalez, deceased from unknown causes. Mr. Gonzalez was pronounced deceased at the scene shortly around 11:30 a.m.
Medical Examiner Rules Death A Homicide
On Wednesday, November 26, 2024, following an autopsy, the Hudson County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be Complications of Blunt Force Injuries and the Manner to be Homicide.
Following the Medical Examiner’s findings, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, in conjunction with the Union City Police Department, has taken control of the investigation.
The investigation is active and ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time.
