PITTSBURGH, PA.- On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Luis Rivera Otero, 37, of New Castle, Pennsylvania, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Court Judge Arthur J. Schwab to 37 months in federal prison, to be followed by four years of supervised release on his conviction for a federal Drug Trafficking Offense.
According to U.S. Attorney Eric G. Olshan and charging documents filed with the court, Rivera Otero was a member of a large-scale drug trafficking organization that obtained kilogram quantities of cocaine through the United States Postal Service sent from Puerto Rico and then repackaged and sold throughout the Western District of Pennsylvania.
The illicit narcotics were distributed as part of an ongoing drug trafficking conspiracy. Specifically, Rivera Otero played a vital role in the organization and was responsible for retrieving five packages containing cocaine and then delivering them to a co-conspirator in return for monetary payment.
