ROCHESTER, NY.- A 62-year-old previously convicted and registered Elmira sex offender has been sentenced to federal prison for possessing digital images depicting the horrific sexual abuse of prepubescent children, including images of the sexual abuse of an infant.
On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Donald Campbell, Sr., 62, of Elmira, New York, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford to 144 months in federal prison for his federal conviction of Possession of Child Pornography.
According to U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross and charging documents filed with the district court, Campbell, between July 25, 2022, and July 9, 2023, possessed electronic devices, including a cellular phone and an SD Card, both of which contained digital images and video files of child pornography.
Campbell utilized the internet to download and distribute the digital images and video files of child pornography. In total, Campbell possessed more than 600 digital images and video files, some of which depicted prepubescent children less than twelve years old being subjected to violent sexual abuse by adults and the sexual abuse of an infant.
Campbell is a registered level-three sex offender, the highest classification risk level, following two prior felony child pornography convictions in New York State Court, one in December 2004 and the other in March 2019.
U.S. Attorney Ross credited the investigative work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force and the Elmira Police Department for the successful prosecution and sentencing of Campbell.
