Metropolitan Police Have Charged A Man In Wednesday’s Southeast Assault

WASHINGTON, DC.- On Friday, the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department charged a 29-year-old man in connection with Wednesday’s early morning screwdriver beating of a Southeast, D.C. man.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith, on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at around 5:30 a.m., members of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of an assault on the 1200 Block of Half Street in Southeast, D.C.
Upon arrival, Police Officers found a man who reported to responding Officers that he confronted an individual who he believed had broken a window on a vehicle on Half Street. The suspect then struck the man repeatedly in the head, causing him to lose consciousness and fall to the ground.
The suspect then grabbed the man’s cellular phone and fled the scene. The man was subsequently treated at the scene by DC Fire and Emergency Services and transported to an area hospital for further medical evaluation.
An ensuing investigation by Detectives of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department in conjunction with the Metro Transit Police was able to identify Craig Hunter, 29, with no known address, as the suspect. On Friday, November 29, 2024, Hunter was located and arrested and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon; and second-degree Theft. Hunter was processed on the charges and was remanded to the D.C. Central Detention Facility pending future court proceedings in the District of Columbia Superior Court.
