MEMPHIS, TN.- Last month, a 21-year-old Memphis, Tennessee, man learned that he would be spending just shy of the next decade in federal prison for peddling deadly fentanyl throughout the Memphis, Tennessee area and possessing multiple firearms.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Reagan Fondren, on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, Myshun Jefferson, 21, of Memphis, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Mark S. Norris to 117 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea to narcotics and firearms offenses.
Jefferson appeared in U.S. District Court on September 4, 2024, and pleaded guilty to a two-count indictment charging him with Possession with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl; and Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime.
According to charging information unsealed in the indictment and filed with the court, in May 2023, Jefferson became a target of an investigation after being identified as an illicit narcotics dealer by agents with the Homeland Security Investigations and Detectives of the Bartlett Police Department into the distribution of large quantities of fentanyl in the Memphis area.
During the investigation, agents and detectives uncovered that Jefferson was distributing fentanyl from two locations in Memphis, Tennessee. After learning of the locations, agents and detectives were able to arrange at least one controlled purchase from each of the locations.
Based on the information obtained during the two controlled purchases, agents and detectives obtained and executed court-authorized search warrants on both properties. During the subsequent searches, agents and detectives found Jefferson at the Baywood Avenue property, along with 200 grams of a mixture and substance containing fentanyl, as well as four firearms.
One of the firearms, a Glock handgun, was discovered tucked into a sofa at the residence. The handgun had an unregistered conversion kit called a “Switch” that would allow the handgun to be converted into a machine gun. Two other handguns discovered were also converted to machine guns, and agents and detectives also found a sawed-off twelve gauge shotgun.
