PATERSON, NJ.- On Monday, December 2, 2024, a 43-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with the November 12, 2024, early morning shooting that claimed the life of a 21-year-old Staten Island, New York man and left a Paterson, New Jersey man hospitalized.

According to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, Robert Davis, 43, of Paterson, has been formally charged with first-degree Murder; first-degree Attempted Murder; first-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose; and second-degree Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.

Davis was taken into custody on Monday without incident, processed on the charges, and remanded to the custody of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office pending transfer to an area county jail. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion with the Superior Court to detain Davis pending trial.

Detectives Identify Davis As The Shooter

The charges stem from an investigation that began on November 12, 2024, when shortly before 3:50 a.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the area of Godwin Avenue and Rosa Parks Boulevard in the City of Paterson.

Upon arrival, Police Officers found evidence of a shooting crime scene, including multiple shell casings. While canvassing the area, Police Officers were notified that a car accident had occurred in front of Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center. One of the vehicle’s occupants, a 27-year-old Paterson, New Jersey man, exited the vehicle and entered the Medical Center with a gunshot wound and was admitted. The other occupant of the vehicle, a 21-year-old Staten Island, New Jersey man, was found inside the vehicle unresponsive from multiple gunshot wounds. The man was subsequently pronounced deceased.

During the ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Paterson Police Department and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office were able to identify Davis as the shooter.
