PATERSON, NJ.- Yesterday, a 54-year-old Paterson, New Jersey, man and child predator was found guilty by a jury in connection with a two-year-long sexual abuse of a 10-year-old child that occurred in Passaic and Paterson, New Jersey.

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes reported that on Monday, December 2, 2024, Cirilo Tello, 54, of Paterson, New Jersey, was found guilty by a Passaic County jury before Superior Court Judge Barbara J. Buono Stanton of one count of second-degree Sexual Assault; and two counts of second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Following the jury’s finding of guilt, Judge Buono Stanton accepted the jury’s verdict and scheduled sentencing for January 24, 2025, at which time Tello will face ten years in New Jersey State Prison subject to the No Early Release Act which would require Tello to serve 85% of his custodial term before becoming eligible for parole. Tello will be placed on parole supervision for life and will be required to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law requirements. Judge Buono Stanton ordered Tello to remain detained in the Bergen County Jail pending sentencing.

Conviction Stems From An Investigation

The conviction stems from an investigation that began on January 4, 2023, when members of the Paterson Police Department contacted Detectives of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit after a 10-year-old child came forward to police that she had been sexually assaulted in Passaic, New Jersey.

During the investigation, Detectives of the Passaic County Special Victims Unit interviewed witnesses, including the child victim, who reported being sexually abused by Tello on multiple occasions beginning in October 2020 and lasting through October 2022, at a residence in Paterson, New Jersey.

Following the investigation, Detectives determined that crimes were committed, and Tello was taken into custody and charged with multiple offenses against the victim and the victim’s brother, who was present during the assaults.
