Thursday, December 5, 2024, 9:10 A.M. ET. 1 Minute Read, By Art Fletcher: Englebrook Independent News,

MARTINSBURG, W.VA.- A 33-year-old Arlington, Virginia, man, and previously convicted felon will be spending nearly the next ten years in federal prison for conspiring with others in a West Virginia straw purchasing firearms scheme.

On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, Michael Jamar Handon, 33, of Arlington, Virginia, appeared in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Gina M. Groh to 114 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release for Aiding and Abetting the False Statement During the Purchase of a Firearm.

According to U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II and documents filed in the District Court, Handon conspired and worked with others to purchase firearms in the Northern District of West Virginia, specifically Berkeley, Jefferson, and Morgan Counties.

At the time he uttered a false statement, Handon knew he was prohibited from owning or possessing firearms and ammunition due to his prior convictions of violent felon in possession/transport of a weapon and possession of ammunition.

U.S. Attorney Ihlenfeld commended the investigative work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Eastern Panhandle Drug Task Force.
