Honduran Illegal Migrant Indicted For Illegal Re-Entry Into The U.S.

PITTSBURGH, PA.- A Federal Grand Jury for the Western District of Pennsylvania returned an indictment charging Saul Enrique Padilla-Mejia, 38, a Honduran national, with one count of Illegal Reentry into the United States by a Previously Deported Alien. Padilla-Mejia was arraigned in Federal Court in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, and was ordered detained pending trial.
According to U.S. Attorney Eric G. Olshan and information unsealed in the indictment, on or about August 13, 2019, Padilla-Mejia was removed from the United States by Immigration and Customs Enforcement Removal Operations.
On February 4, 2024, Padilla-Mejia was arrested by Troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police for driving under the influence, driving without a license, reckless driving, careless driving, and failing to obey traffic control devices.
Then, on September 1, 2024, Padilla-Mejia was taken into custody by members of the Moon Township Police Department on the illegal reentry charge, and on October 30, 2024, Padilla-Mejia was turned over and taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
If convicted on the charge, Padilla-Mejia faces up to two years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine, or both. Upon completion of his federal sentence, Padilla-Mejia will be deported from the U.S.
