Philadelphia Man Sentenced For Drug Trafficking In Burlington, Vermont

BURLINGTON, VT.- On Tuesday, a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, man will be spending just around the next five years in federal for peddling crack cocaine and fentanyl on the streets of Burlington, Vermont.

     U.S. Attorney Nikolas P. Kerest reported that on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, Roosevelt Smith, 27, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, appeared in U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Christina Reiss to 58 months in federal prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release for his previously entered guilty plea to Possession with Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine.

According To The U.S. Attorney’s Office

     According to charging documents filed with the District Court, on September 21, 2023, during an ongoing investigation into Smith’s drug distribution activities, local and state law enforcement investigators arrested Smith as he returned to Burlington from Philadelphia. After being taken into custody, Investigators obtained and executed a court-authorized search at 86 N. Champlain Street in the City of Burlington.

     During the search, investigators located and seized around 300 grams of crack cocaine and just around 70 grams of fentanyl. A subsequent court-authorized search of Smith’s cellular phone uncovered communications consistent with illicit narcotics distribution activities.

     U.S. Attorney Kerest commended the investigative work of the Burlington Police Department and the Vermont State Police.
