Guatemalan Man Indicted For Illegal Reentry After Being Deported In 2008

PITTSBURGH, PA.- On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, Josue Raul Ascon-Morales, 36, a Guatemalan national living in the Western District of Pennsylvania illegally, was arraigned on the unsealing of a federal indictment on an immigration violation.
A Federal Grand Jury for the Western District of Pennsylvania returned the indictment charging Ascon-Morales with one count of Illegal Reentry into the United States by a Previously Deported Alien. Following being arraigned on the charge, Ascon-Morales was ordered detained pending trial.
According to U.S. Attorney Eric G. Olshan, on or about March 18, 2008, Ascon-Morales was removed from the United States by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Removal Operations. On September 1, 2024, Ascon-Morales was arrested and charged by the Moon Township Police Department for Driving Under the Influence and Driving Without a License.
On October 22, 2024, Ascon-Morales was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
If convicted at trial, Ascon-Morales faces up to two years in federal prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both. Upon completion of his federal term of imprisonment, Ascon-Morales will face immediate deportation proceedings.
