Saturday, December 7, 2024, 9:15 A.M. ET. 1 Minute Read, By Art Fletcher: Englebrook Independent News,

KEARNY, NJ.- Investigators of the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Kearny Fire Department are continuing the search for the cause of yesterday’s early morning fire that tragically claimed the lives of a 61-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman.

On Friday, December 6, 2024, just minutes after 12:00 a.m., members of the Kearny Police Department and the Kearny Fire Department responded to 911 Emergency Calls reporting a fully involved house fire located at 56 Hamilton Avenue in Kearny.

Upon arrival, First Responders discovered heavy smoke and flames coming from a single-family residence. While battling the fire, Firefighters discovered victims inside the residence, both having sustained serious injuries.

Martin Wilson, 61, was immediately transported to University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey, where he died of his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 1:20 a.m. The second victim, Mary Beth Guenther, 58, was immediately transported to Clara Maas Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased around 12:00 p.m.

During the initial investigation, fire investigators determined that the fire originated in the home’s basement. Although the cause has not been determined, investigators do not believe that foul play was involved.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office at (201) 915-1345.
