Teaneck Man Charged In November Fatal Hit & Run

TEANECK, NJ.- Following an investigation, on Saturday, December 7, 2024, a 35-year-old Teaneck, New Jersey, man was taken into custody and jailed after being charged in connection with running down a 70-year-old woman late last month and fleeing the scene.
According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, Jevon M. Bryant, 35, of Teaneck, New Jersey, was taken into custody and formally charged by Detectives with second-degree Knowingly Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death; third-degree Endangering an Injured Victim; and fourth-degree Obstruction of Justice, as well as multiple motor vehicle summons.
Bryant was processed on the charges and was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending future court proceedings in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.
Investigation Results In Charges Being Filed
The arrest and charges stem from an investigation that began on Thursday, November 21, 2024, when, just around 7:00 pm., members of the Teaneck Police Department responded to multiple 911 Emergency Calls reporting a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle and was lying in the roadway on Cedar Lane in Teaneck.
Upon arrival, Police Officers Police Officers found a female pedestrian, identified as Bernardita Garcia, 70, of Englewood, New Jersey, suffering multiple serious injuries. Ms. Garcia was immediately transported to Holy Name Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased. During the initial investigation, Police Officers learned that Ms. Garcia had been struck by a motor that fled the scene.
During an ensuing investigation, Detectives of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Teaneck Police Department determined that while crossing Cedar Lane near the intersection of Lincoln Place, Ms. Garcia was struck by a white Honda Accord. On Saturday, December 7, 2024, Detectives located the Honda and identified Bryant as the driver at the time of the collision.
