PITTSBURGH, PA.- On Monday, December 9, 2024, Duane Jackson, 39, of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge William S. Stickman, IV to 134 months in federal prison for his conviction on Firearms Trafficking, Conspiracy, and Violation of Supervised Release.
According to U.S. Attorney Eric G. Olshan and documents filed with the court, Jackson engaged in a conspiracy to acquire multiple firearms beginning in April 2021 and lasting through November 2021. During that period, Jackson acquired around 26 firearms. At the same time, Jackson was on supervised release for a prior federal felony conviction for bank fraud.
Federal law prohibits a person previously convicted of a felony from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition.
During the conspiracy, Jackson attempted to obtain multiple machinegun conversion devices, also known as the “Glock Switches.”
In handing down the sentence on Monday, Judge Stickman imposed a 120-month sentence for the new offense and a 14-month consecutive sentence for Jackson’s violation of his term of supervised release. Before imposing a sentence, Judge Stickman noted the gravity of the offenses, noting the plague that illegal firearms and the violence associated with them inflict on the community.
“Firearms trafficking and violent crime often go hand in hand,” said U.S. Attorney Olshan. “During the conspiracy in this case, Duane Jackson, a convicted felon, illegally acquired over two dozen firearms. Today’s sentence of over 11 years sends a clear message, if you traffic in firearms, you will be held accountable under federal law. This office will continue to work every day with our law enforcement partners at all levels of government to stop the illegal flow of firearms across western Pennsylvania.”
