WASHINGTON, DC.- A 16-year-old boy was killed early Tuesday morning after the stolen car he was driving was struck by a drunk driver at the intersection of Reed Terrace and Southern Avenue in Southeast, D.C.
According to D.C. Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. A Jeep Wrangler traveling southbound on Southern Avenue entered the intersection and struck the Lexus. Both teen occupants of the Lexus were trapped in the vehicle as a result of the crash. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services and Prince George’s County Fire Department extricated both teens and immediately transported them to a local hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts by doctors, the teen driver succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The teen passenger remains hospitalized. The Jeep Wrangler’s driver and passenger were uninjured in the collision.
Further investigation revealed the Lexus RC350 had been reported stolen out of Prince George’s County on Monday, December 9, 2024, and a stolen firearm was found inside the Lexus.
The driver of the Jeep Wrangler, Sean Stokes, 36, of Clinton, Maryland, was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence.
