MAYS LANDING, NJ.- Last week, a 71-year-old Mays Landing, New Jersey, man was indicted in a three-year theft scheme that bilked numerous grieving family members out of money for headstones they ordered for their loved one’s burial sites.
On Thursday, December 12, 2024, an Atlantic County Grand Jury returned an indictment against Jiolio “Joe” Cincotti, 71, of Mays Landing, on multiple charges of third-degree Theft by Deception and Money Laundering for allegedly deceiving more than thirty victims between October 2020 and December 2023.
According to Atlantic County Prosecutor William E. Reynolds, Cincotti represented himself as the owner of Atlantic Memorials in Mays Landing, New Jersey, and was engaged in making and selling headstones.
Victims Decieved Out Of More Than $50,000.
In each of the instances, the victims ordered a headstone for their recently deceased family member. Cincotti accepted payment from the family members but never delivered the headstone nor refunded the money. At the time of his arrest and after being released on bail condition, the total amount of the theft exceeded $50,000.
Anyone with information regarding Cincotti’s activities or who may have been defrauded by him is urged to contact the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office at (609) 909-7800. All calls will be kept confidential.
